Unlike most teams during the past couple of weeks, the Philadelphia 76ers retooled their roster for the better by getting All-Star wing Paul George. This led many to believe that the City of Brotherly Love won the 2024 NBA offseason and are considered favorites to challenge the Boston Celtics for the East.
Heading into the 2024-25 NBA season, the Philadelphia 76ers have made a series of transformative moves to bolster their roster and position themselves as a formidable contender for the championship.
The Sixers have landed a major coup by signing George to a 4-year, $212 million contract. This addition of George’s scoring prowess and two-way talent alongside the team’s existing cornerstones, MVP Joel Embiid and All-Star Tyrese Maxey, creates a tantalizing Big Three that should strike fear into the hearts of opponents.
Further solidifying their depth, the Sixers have retained the services of Maxey, locking him up on a lucrative 5-year, $204 million max contract extension. Additionally, they’ve brought back veteran sharpshooter Kelly Oubre Jr. on a 2-year, $16.3 million deal.

All of these moves have placed Philadelphia in a position to succeed in the coming season. According to an article posted on Bleacher Report, there’s a reason why the Sixers won the offseason this year.
“There’s a reason why we play the games. The Sixers remain a theoretical team. But their Big Three of George, Maxey and Joel Embiid is among the most balanced star formations in the league, and they’re surrounded by actual depth. Plus, Philly still has other cards to play. This is what an 11-of-out-10 offseason looks like,” Bleacher Report wrote.
Having the All-Star trio of George, Embiid, and Maxey lead the charge is more than enough to get them a playoff seed. Add the presence of established veterans and promising talent to the mix, as well as the experience of Nick Nurse, and there’s little reason to believe that the Sixers won’t dominate if they’re all healthy.
It remains to be seen how Philadelphia and its new roster will perform in the coming months. In any case, a lot of fans will be tuning in to see how they’ll do with a talented team making their stand in the Eastern Conference.
