Unlike other prospects who were selected in the recent 2024 NBA Draft, Duke’s Jared McCain went mostly unnoticed when the Philadelphia 76ers picked him in the first round. In turn, the rookie boldly declared he’s ready for the team’s dedicated fanbase.
McCain was selected 16th overall by the 76ers in the 2024 NBA Draft. After a standout high school career, where he was named the California Gatorade Player of the Year twice, McCain committed to play college basketball at Duke University.
During his lone season with the Blue Devils, McCain made an immediate impact. He earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors twice and set a Duke freshman record by scoring 35 points in a game against Florida State. McCain continued his strong play in the NCAA Tournament, scoring 30 points in a win over James Madison and 32 points in a narrow loss to NC State in the Elite Eight.
McCain’s impressive college performance earned him a green room invite to the 2024 Draft, where the 76ers selected him with their first-round pick. The 6’2″ shooting guard will now look to make an immediate contribution at the professional level, as he begins his NBA career with the 76ers.
With his combination of scoring ability, perimeter defense, and high basketball IQ, Jared McCain is poised to become a valuable asset for the 76ers as they look to contend for an NBA championship in the years ahead.
Philadelphia 76ers Rookie Jared McCain Says He’s Ready For Philly Fans
Like most rookies, McCain is ready to go prove his worth in the league. In a video shared by NBA TV on X, the Sixers’ latest young star is also ready to face the franchise’s fanbase.

McCain is expected to provide an offensive boost to a Sixers core with former MVP Joel Embiid and All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey in it. However, his lack of size may be a detriment, especially if he shares the court with the latter.
It remains to be seen whether McCain can rise up to the occasion or sink under the pressure of the Sixers franchise. In any case, Philly’s fans will be there to monitor how the rookie will perform next season.
