The Philadelphia 76ers have a scary new trio after the arrival of Paul George to the City of Brotherly Love. Still, the Sixers are Joel Embiid’s team. Opposing teams will think about stopping Embiid first before any of his teammates.
During a recent appearance on the Podcast P with Paul George (h/t HoopsHype), Maxey opened up about his expanded role on the 76ers but also mentioned the hard work and dedication of Embiid in keeping his body healthy behind the scenes.
“He works on his game, he works on his body, he works on staying healthy. People don’t see that, but he does. It’s like as a singer, I can be a soprano and a baritone. It’s unbelievable. I’ve been playing a lot and scoring those types of numbers with Joel. Now, without Joel, all the focus is on you, like heavy. I saw so many different defenses. Utah was in like a box-and-one from the jump. I didn’t even see box-and-one in high school.”

One of the biggest knocks on Embiid is his proneness to injury. He has yet to play in more than 68 games in a season. In the 2023-24 NBA campaign, Embiid appeared in only 39 games. It can also be remembered that he missed his first two seasons in the NBA due to a foot injury. All that being said, Maxey knows that Embiid is always trying to strengthen his body.

There should be less pressure on the shoulders of Embiid beginning in the 2024-25 NBA season with George and Maxey expected to share the load with him, especially on offense.
