The Philadelphia 76ers successfully won the Paul George sweepstakes which is also a big loss for the Los Angeles Clippers. The 76ers, however, got some measure of “revenge” when they secured the nod of free agent Mo Bamba to a one-year contract, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
“Free agent center Mo Bamba has agreed on a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, sources tell ESPN.”
Bamba is not even remotely close to Paul George’s level, but he still answers a need for the Clippers, who needed depth at in the frontcourt and behind Ivica Zubac after Mason Plumlee agreed to a deal with the Phoenix Suns.
Bamba, a former first-round pick by the Orlando Magic in the 2018 NBA Draft, spent the last season with the 76ers, averaging just 4.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in only 13.0 minutes through 57 appearances (including 17 starts).
The Clippers still have the pair of Kawhi Leonard and James Harden to carry most of the team’s load, so even with George’s departure, Los Angeles can still be expected to contend for the NBA title next season. For Bamba, he has a chance to turn things around for his career in the NBA which started with plenty of promise. If he put together a solid campaign for the Clippers, he could be in for a much bigger payday in the next offseason.
