Bill Kennedy had to be carted off during the Philadelphia 76ers-Orlando Magic game on Friday after he came down with a non-contact leg injury during the final few minutes of the first period, following a Paul George basket in transition.
After the game, Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse and star Joel Embiid sent their prayers for Kennedy, who is one of the most popular NBA officials due to his colorful reviews of coaches’ challenges during games.
“I just heard he kind of screamed out, and I saw him kind of grab his leg, and then he screamed again and went down. I don’t know what the final—I don’t know,” Nurse said of Kennedy via Ky Carlin of the Sixers Wire. “It looked like a hamstring to me, but I thought I’d heard some rumblings about Achilles or something at halftime, so let’s hope it’s not that, but it’s too bad.”
“Obviously, anytime you see injuries–I’ve had some of the most unfortunate injuries,” Embiid added. “So, every single time I see someone struggling or getting hurt, that kind of hits me a little bit. I saw it, and it was unfortunate. Hopefully, it’s nothing too bad. I’ll be praying for him.”

Philadelphia 76ers News: Paul George praises VJ Edgecombe for stellar rookie NBA season
VJ Edgecombe has been one of the key contributors behind the Philadelphia 76ers’ 21-15 start this season, as he’s averaging 16.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists on 42.9 percent shooting across 31 starts, and Paul George made sure to give the rookie his flowers during a recent interview.
“He is doing it all. A lot has been thrown at him, and he has been producing. He has been clutch in big moments. He has made big plays after big plays, both offensively and defensively. He is definitely a guy that isn’t afraid of the moment. His maturity is way ahead of his age,” George said of Edgecombe via Cody Taylor of the Rookie Wire.
“It is fun to watch when a kid that young gets it and understands it early. You look at leadership, and from a veteran’s standpoint, it is just my job to kind of help make it easier for him. He is special. He is very special,” he ended.
