“Both Sides Remain Very Far Apart” – Philadelphia 76ers Insider Reveals the Team’s Lowball Offer to Key Free Agent Guard

The Philadelphia 76ers have yet to reach an agreement with restricted free agent Quentin Grimes. According to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Gina Mizell, the team seems unwilling to give in to Grimes’ demand. As a result, Grimes will not be attending the team’s media day or traveling with the team to Abu Dhabi for their preseason games.

“Agent David Bauman told me the Sixers’ formal offer was for four years and $39 million, and he still believes Grimes should command $20-25 annually. So, yeah, far apart. Some sort of one-year deal seems most likely, at the moment,” Mizell wrote.

Grimes was one of the brightest spots for the Philadelphia 76ers last season in a forgettable 2024-25 campaign that was marred by injuries to their top players. The team acquired the 25-year-old swingman from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Caleb Martin.

In the 28 regular season games he played for Philadelphia, Grimes averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals on 46.9 percent shooting from the field.

Philadelphia 76ers News: Quentin Grimes advised by former NBA champion to take the team’s original offer

Former NBA All-Star Jeff Teague believes that Quentin Grimes doesn’t have the leverage to earn a lucrative contract extension from the Philadelphia 76ers, despite his breakout stretch last season.

“You’re at a disadvantage, bro. Play it out, there’s cash and space next year with some more teams,” Teague said on the Club 520 podcast. “I’m going to take that one year for $8 (million) because I’m not going to leave any money on the table. You ain’t going to get no deal killer.”

“If they haven’t offered you yet, all you’re going to do is give somebody more opportunity to show yourself in camp. The only reason you were getting the opportunity is because PG wasn’t PG. He was hurt, Jared McCain was hurt. Now you got VJ Edgecombe,” he added.
