The moment Tyrese Maxey showed off for the Philadelphia 76ers last season, it became clear that he was going to be an important cog in the team’s NBA championship aspirations for the next couple of years. With Joel Embiid already entering his 30s, his emergence as a strong costar is a blessing to the Sixers’ push for the NBA title.
The team’s chances for the title was boosted even further after Paul George agreed to move to Philly and be the third star Philly badly needed since 2019. The forward is going to add another offensive outlet and further stability to the team’s defense up and down the board.

The question now lied on whether the Philadelphia front office would be able to tie Maxey down to an extended contract. While it’s a commendable feat for Daryl Morey to refurbish the Sixers into an actual contender, all of it would be pointless if they didn’t manage to tie the Kentucky product to a long-term deal.
Tyrese Maxey, Philadelphia 76ers agree to a five-year, $204 million contract

Fortunately, they didn’t have to worry about any of that as they happily gave the 23-year-old guard all the money they could spare to tie him down to the team.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski for ABC News, the Sixers and Maxey’s camp shook hands on a five-year deal that will reward the player with $204 million in earnings.
What makes the deal even sweeter is the fact that there are no options in the contract. It shows how committed Maxey is to the team as a whole.
He further explained why the deal is good for the franchise’s long-term future:
Maxey is the franchise’s future face and the connective tissue between All-NBA center Joel Embiid and the arrival of All-NBA forward Paul George in free agency. Maxey averaged 25.9 points and 6.2 assists for the Sixers a season ago — including nearly 30 points a game in the Sixers’ six-game opening round playoff loss to the New York Knicks.
While the core looks dominant on paper, Morey and the Philadelphia 76ers front office know they still have plenty of work to do. Until the season begins in the fall, expect the team to try and pull off more moves that will solidify the team.
