The 2024 WNBA season is kicking off this week, but unfortunately for Brittney Griner and the Phoenix Mercury, she will not be there on the court when they open their campaign this Tuesday on the road versus the Las Vegas Aces.

Griner has reportedly suffered a serious lower-body injury that will need her to be sidelined for multiple weeks and also put her 2024 season in jeopardy altogether.

    Via ESPN:

Breaking: Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner has sustained a toe fracture on her left foot and will be out and re-evaluated in the coming weeks, the team announced.

Despite the brutal injury, many people on social media chose to hurl negative words at the Suns center.

“this isn’t breaking news, we don’t care,” said @BronGotGame on X (formerly Twitter).

“USA lost the trade,” chimed in @dgsire, who was referring at Griner’s imprisonment in and eventual release from Russian prison.

“Meanwhile there’s a weapons dealer out there with a perfectly healthy foot putting up 16-9-12 in the Russian league. Unbelievable man. We got fleeced,” commented @OasisMma.

From @CallahanAutoCo: “No ones cared about this dude since it was rescued from the Gulag.”

Those comments just show how incredibly harsh social media can be to a person, but for Griner, her focus will be all on recuperating from the injury and on getting back to the court as soon as she can to help the Mercury.
