Phoenix Suns are not among the contenders but they did what appeared to be impossible this season – containing Victor Wembanyama. The San Antonio Spurs were 5-0 heading into the game, led by The Alien who to many is a frontrunner for the Most Valuable Player award.

Wembanyama displayed unparalleled skills in the first five games, which is the best start ever for the San Antonio franchise. He averaged 30 points and league-best rebounds before their visit to the desert.
His numbers after the game are far from what he usually produces as he was contained to just 9 points and 9 rebounds on Monday night as his team suffered their first loss of the season. NBA X went crazy because of the result.
Tasked to guard him are Mark Williams and 6’6 Royce O’Neale who slid into the power forward position. Williams celebrated the win against the Spurs and shared what they did correctly both on offense and against Wemby.

“Feels good to get one at home, against a team that was undefeated,” he said.
“We are on the right foot before we head out. It feels good for sure.”
Phoenix Suns threw everything at Wemby
Williams, who arrived to the team this summer in a trade with Charlotte Hornets. also gave praise to teammate O’Neale for his holding his ground and how they worked together to make Wemby’s life difficulty.
“Throwing a bunch of different looks at him. Making his life difficult on the catch. Our rotations were pretty good out of his passes,” he continued.
“He’s the focal point obviously, so we really did a good job on that with Royce.”

Williams finished the game with 7 points, two blocks and one steal while O’Neal had 11 points.
The Suns will now head out and visit San Francisco to play the Golden State Warriors. They are still expected to be undermanned with Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green still on the rehab bay.
