“NBA Draft night is the best. Everyone talking about the drama and storylines, some are right, and some are just wrong. My turn. Phoenix loves Kevin Durant, and Kevin Durant loves Phoenix. We are competing for a championship this year because we have the team to do it. Gotta love draft night!! Go Suns,” Ishbia posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
The Phoenix Suns are coming off a disappointing 2023-24 campaign. They were unceremoniously swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round, despite having a Big 3 of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal.

After the early exit, the Phoenix Suns replaced Frank Vogel with Mike Budenholzer, the team’s third head coach under the ownership of Mat Ishbia.
Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant linked with a potential move to the Houston Rockets
Mat Ishbia probably felt the need to put out a statement about Kevin Durant because the two-time NBA champion was named as a top trade target for the Houston Rockets, who acquired the Phoenix Suns’ draft picks from the Brooklyn Nets as part of the stunning Mikal Bridges trade on Tuesday.

Kevin Durant is coming off a solid individual campaign with the Phoenix Suns, averaging 27.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game in 75 regular-season games. The 14-time NBA All-Star averaged 26.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game in the postseason.
With two years left on his current deal, the Phoenix Suns aren’t in a rush to shop him, and there’s no indication that Kevin Durant is unhappy with his situation.
The Houston Rockets were also linked with Devin Booker, 27, who is arguably a better fit for them given their current timeline. However, Booker is under contract with the Phoenix Suns through the 2027-28 campaign.
