The Phoenix Suns lost their fourth straight game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, capping off a disappointing playoff run considering how they assembled their team before the 2023-24 season.
When the Phoenix Suns acquired Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards last summer to form a Big 3 with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, the expectation is that they’ll be one of the top teams in the Western Conference, but here we are.
Changes are expected this summer, but they must examine how they are run as a team. And if one anonymous source within the Phoenix Suns organization is to be believed, the change has to start with their owner, Mat Ishbia, who bought the team in late 2022.

“It’s like Looney Tunes around here. It’s felt unstable since [Ishbia] arrived. He’s a good guy and everything, I think, but he’s just very involved,” said the source via Sam Amico of Hoops Wire. “Too involved. I know he played (college basketball), but I’d venture to say he has no idea what he’s doing when it comes to basketball. Yet he’s making a lot of the big decisions.”
“There aren’t too many examples where a young owner comes in, gets super involved, and then the team has great success,” the source added. “What you usually get is where (the Suns) are now.”
Phoenix Suns reportedly looking to replace Frank Vogel
Mat Ishbia isn’t going to leave the Phoenix Suns anytime soon, so he’s expected to continue to be hands-on in running the team. With that said, if recent reports are to be believed, head coach Frank Vogel is likely to become their scapegoat.
According to Shams Charania and Doug Haller from The Athletic, the Phoenix Suns are going to take a “hard look” at making changes in the coaching staff, so firing Vogel is a real possibility, despite just finishing the first year of his five-year, $31 million contract that he signed last offseason.
