Ausar Thompson was picked below his twin brother Amen and currently, looks like that is the right decision. The former was picked fifth in 2023 by the Detroit Pistons while the latter was picked fourth by the Houston Rockets.

Amen has critics raving after his stellar 2024-2025 season performance where he is among Houston’s top players that led the Rockets to a second place finish.

For the 2025-26 season, he is predicted not just to become an All-Star but to be on the same level as their 2023 batchmate Victor Wembanyama. Analyst and former NBA player Kendrick Perkins think Amen will become the best two-way player in the near future.

“I believe they’re going to be the best offensive team in the league. They had 32 assists last night, 68 paint points, and 13 dunks. They’re going to get out and run,” said Perkins in his show on ESPN.

“But they’re going to get stops, and it’s going to be led by their best defender in Amen Thompson, who I believe is going to challenge Victor Wembenyama in the next few years as the best two-way player in the game.”

Ausar Thompson is the better twin, per his teammate

Pistons forward Jalen Duren is shouting ‘hold up’ on that take. He thinks his teammate is the better twin between the two. Ausar has been effective this season in both ends of the floor as Detroit sit at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.

“Ausar Thompson is probably going to be the best defender in the league in less than two years. His athleticism, his built, it’s insane,” Duren said during a guesting on the Morris twins show.

“I’ve never seen anybody move the way Ausar moves. And we got the better twin”.

Duren may be biased but critics feel the same although not on the same level as they feel about Amen. Still, the Pistons Thompson is being projected as a future star.

He will become a free agent by 2027 and Pistons are looking forward to do that.
