Winning the MVP in the NBA in the past seasons is dictated largely by the player’s team record. Cade Cunningham’s name is not found in a lot of MVP convos although the Detroit Pistons made it to the Top 5 of the NBA.com Kia MVP Ladder.

He might have a legit chance now with his team currently holding the second best record in the league and no. 1 spot in the Eastern Conference at 15-2. They are also on a 13-game winning streak with their assignment being the depleted Boston Celtics.
Does Cunningham believe he has what it takes to win the MVP. In case he wins it, it will be first ever by a Piston in all of its history. However, that is not his priority.
“That’s not what this season is about for me, though. This season is about winning a Finals, more than anything,” he said via NBA on ESPN on Youtube.

“A Finals MVP — I’d be way more happy about that than a regular MVP. You know what I mean? I think an MVP will come one day — Lord willing — if I can stay healthy and continue to grow. I think I can. But this team being successful is my number one goal.”
Cade Cunningham is consistent with his goal
The 2021 top pick is a man on a mission. He did say in the interview that he can win the MVP but he has always been about team glory.
He wants his team to have the best chance to win to that point that he disliked how they won against the Indiana Pacers in their last assignment.
Head coach JB Bickerstaff attests to his player’s commitment to winning for everyone.

“It’s the position you’re put in when you’re the No. 1 pick, responsibility that comes with that, the hope that comes with that, the pressures and then the makeup of what’s going around you because typically a No. 1 is in a rebuild situation,” Bickerstaff said back in October.
“He stuck through it all. He could’ve been, like, frustrated, blamed everyone else, but never once did you hear him do that. The only thing he did was put his head down and go to work and accept responsibility. I don’t know if I’ve ever coached a guy who apologizes and says `my bad’ more than Cade.”
