NBA rescheduled the Timberwolves vs. Warriors game from Saturday to Sunday because of safety concerns after a VA nurse named Alex Pretti was killed in a shooting by ICE agents. Before Sunday’s tipoff, the Timberwolves held a moment of silence for the late nurse since it was an extremely tragic shooting case.
But the heartwarming arrangement is getting nonstop backlash from the NBA community. It seems like misinformation is spreading like wildfire across X and other platforms, claiming that Pretti was armed. Warriors coach Steve Kerr addressed it bluntly after the game, saying, “We’re being divided by media for profit, by misinformation.”
The RedWave Press account posted, “NEW: The Minnesota Timberwolves paused for a moment of silence to honor Alex Pretti before Sunday’s game vs. the Warriors. Yet, no NBA team has ever held a moment of silence for Laken Riley or Jocelyn Nungaray, who were brutally murdered by illegal aliens.”

However, the majority’s claims don’t match the verified evidence. Multiple videos show Pretti recording with his phone when agents confronted him. An ICE agent removed a gun from Pretti’s waistband after he was already pinned down. He was shot less than one second after being disarmed.
Based on reports, Pretti was described by police and witnesses as a lawful gun owner with a permit to carry. Reports also indicate that he was carrying the firearm in a holster at a protest when he was involved in an altercation with Border Patrol agents.
But some fans and social media accounts are continuously referencing a video showing Pretti with a gun, but the fact is that he never pointed it at anyone. The “Kyle Rittenhouse” comparison put gasoline in the controversy. Some claim Pretti should have “put his hands up” like Kyle did during the Kenosha riots, which ignores key facts about what actually happened.
Fans Push Boycott Calls After Timberwolves Pay Tribute to Alex Pretti
However, some fans’ brains are already washed, as they trust the false claims spread by random social media accounts. So folks have no sympathy for the Wolves for honoring someone they’ve wrongly interpreted as a terrorist.
One fan wrote, “Why don’t they play the video of him with the gun in his hands?”
Another added, “The team owner should be arrested.”
A third one shared, “It’s a wild day in America when we honor people breaking laws. However, this was an interesting case because he was a nurse and probably helped many people heal or pass. His case will forever make me think about the consequences of suicidal empathy.”
The fourth penned, “The @NBA just doesn’t want to talk about their clearly rigged games. Everyone knows Vegas/Mob control all the outcomes.”
Anyways, Wolves did nothing controversial by arranging a tribute for the nurse who died tragically. But in 2026, even that becomes a political flashpoint fueled by misinformation.
