Portland Trail Blazers rookie Hansen Yang has become a social media darling for his solid play and wholesome personality, and the Chinese international can’t wait to share the NBA court with one of his idols.

Yang, the 16th overall pick of this summer’s NBA Draft, sent his well wishes to his newest teammate, Damian Lillard, who is not expected to play for the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2025-26 NBA campaign due to a torn Achilles.
“Damian, I mean, he’s a really good player,” Yang said with the help of interpreter Chris Liu via ClutchPoints. “I always use them in the 2K game, and I just wish that Damian will rehabilitate himself soon. I feel for Damian; I wish I can see him on the court soon.”

In the interview, Yang also paid homage to Lillard by doing his “Dame Time” impression when he was asked about his fond memories of watching the Portland Trail Blazers growing up.

Hansen Yang recently announced that he won’t be able to play for the Chinese national team in the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup, as he will focus on preparing for his rookie NBA season with the Portland Trail Blazers.

“In the coming period, I will devote all my energy to preparing for the preseason training camp and strive to make solid progress in the new season. During the Asia Cup, I will be following every game of the national team and cheering for my brothers,” Yang said in a statement via the South China Morning Post.
Yang averaged 10.8 points, five rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.2 blocks on 45.7 per cent shooting from the field in four Summer League games. The Portland Trail Blazers rookie will battle for playing time against Donovan Clingan, Robert Williams III, and Duop Reath.
