Under Matt Painter, Purdue basketball has developed the reputation of being a program that always has an exceedingly tall player. Not just tall, but again, very tall. Zach Edey, who stands 7-foot-4, played for several years for the Boilermakers. Edey may no longer be with Purdue, but Painter’s squad isn’t lacking in ceiling either.

Against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Monday, the Boilermakers debuted their newest big man, freshman Daniel Jacobsen, who is 7-foor-4 – or 7-3, depending on which site or source you’re getting your info – and fans were quick to notice his height.

“Yes, Purdue has another 7’4 center. His name is Daniel Jacobsen. He’s a freshman from Chicago. It’s the 13th consecutive season the Boilermakers have had at least one 7-footer on the roster. And yes, that’s the LONGEST active streak in college basketball.”

Purdue basketball big man Daniel Jacobsen shines in Boilermakers debut

Jacobsen is more than just about height, though. He played a crucial role for the Boilermakers against the Islanders, as he generated 13 points on 4-for-6 shooting from the field and 5-for-7 from the foul line while adding seven boards and three blocks in 25 minutes of a 90-73 win at home by Purdue.
A four-star recruit by Purdue, Jacobsen got offers from the likes of the Wisconsin Badgers, Minnesota Golden Gophers, Clemson Tigers, and Creighton Bluejays before committing to and enrolling at Purdue.
