Fans of Purdue basketball held their collective breaths this weekend awaiting news on the injury status of freshman big man Daniel Jacobsen. On Sunday, the Boilermaker program received the news they dreaded the most.
Daniel Jacobsen Will Miss The Rest of the 2024-25 Season

According to si.com, Purdue coach Matt Painter divulged the unfortunate news on Jacobsen on Sunday: The 7-foot-4 freshman will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season after suffering a fractured tibia in his right leg.
After a superlative debut on November 4 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi where he scored 13 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and swatted three Islander shots, Jacobsen was injured just one minute into Friday’s game against the Northern Kentucky Norse. He collided with a defender and crumpled to the floor and was rendered out for the rest of the game.
Painter said that Jacobsen will medically redshirt and will have all four years of eligibility remaining.
Teammates of Jacobsen felt badly for their big man. “You feel bad for Daniel,” Purdue guard Fletcher Loyer said. “He’s worked really hard. He’s proven that he deserves to start and eventually go on and be a great player here. Obviously it’s a little setback for him, but I know his mentality and he’s going to rehab and he’s going to get ready to go.”
Others Will Need To Step Up For Purdue Basketball
In Jacobsen’s place, the Boilermakers will rely on a trio of candidates to fill his role: redshirt sophomore Will Berg, freshman Raleigh Burgess and senior Caleb Furst. All three have played through Purdue’s first two games of the season.
All three will get their chance immediately this upcoming week when the Purdue basketball team takes on Yale on Monday night and #2-ranked Alabama on Friday, both games taking place at Mackey Arena.
