Eight hundred dollars. That was the fine given to Angel Reese, who was also suspended by the league. Certainly a career first for her and her young WNBA career, she took the headlines and the front pages of women’s sports in America for reasons that she didn’t quite expect.
The Sky visited Connecticut for their usual season game. It was already tense as it is, but in the second quarter, Angel Reese made contact with Aaliyah Edwards at the head. Edwards was floored and the officials had to rewind the tape for that encounter.

This ended up being Angel Reese’s eighth technical foul. And following the WNBA rules, number 8 is a hefty $800 fine. She certainly had to pay what it’s worth, and it is heavy. As unforgiving as it is, technical fouls are the worst kind of fouls you don’t want.
The fallout has made Angel Reese one of the most discussed figures in basketball this week. Supporters point to her passion and commitment to winning, while critics argue she must find a balance between being competitive and being responsible. What’s clear is that every move she makes will be closely watched as she navigates this difficult moment.
Angel Reese’s Comments Create Additional Drama
After news of her suspension, Angel Reese found herself clarifying statements that had stirred even more controversy. Her postgame interview raised eyebrows, as many believed her choice of words came off as dismissive toward her Fever teammates.

During an interview with Khristina Poe, she spoke candidly about her expectations for the Fever’s future. “I’m not settling for the same s** we did this year. We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me. I’m willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason. So it’s going to be very, very important this offseason to make sure we attract the best of the best because we can’t settle for what we have this year,”* Reese said.
The decision is split on whether one would side with Angel Reese or not. But you can’t really blame leaders if all they want is to push the team forward. We’ve seen it before where those who carry the team on their backs demand more.

Whether this is taken out of context or not, all Angel Reese wants is to be competitive. She wants the wins. She wants the team to be the best it is. And that itself isn’t a bad thing to ask for.
