The courtroom literally fell silent as the details emerged. It sounds amusing, as the chaos erupted during a competitive match of NBA 2K.
But the ending was terrifying because that nasty father literally threw his 8-year-old against the wall due to frustration for losing games. Now that innocent infant is fighting for life.
Jalin White Apologizes as He Receives 12-Year Sentence for Throwing Infant Over NBA 2K Loss
The incident unfolded on November 5, 2024. Jalin White, the sentenced father, was watching his eight-month-old son while the baby’s mother left their home. He fired up NBA 2K and held the infant while playing the game. The chaos unfolded in the fourth quarter of the match.
White was down two points with time running out in the video game. When his frustration reportedly reached a breaking point, he threw his son against the wall above his bed. White later admitted to detectives he heard the loud bang when the baby’s head struck the wall.
“My intentions were never to hurt my baby boy,” White told the court during sentencing. “Everything just happened so quick. I want to take full accountability for my wrongs and my actions.”
The mother returned home to find her son twitching and barely breathing. His arms were jerking. One eye was swollen shut. She rushed him to Children’s Wisconsin Hospital immediately.
Medical staff found severe injuries. The baby had a major skull fracture and bleeding in the brain. Six ribs were broken, some older than others. A healing collarbone fracture also suggested past abuse. The child lost his pulse and needed several rounds of CPR to survive.
Doctors didn’t expect the infant to pull through the damage, but he defied the odds and miraculously survived.

White initially fed investigators several different stories. He claimed the baby fell off an air mattress. He said the child’s mother hit his head on a door frame. He blamed a diaper change gone wrong. Eventually, the truth came out about the rage-fueled throw during the clutch moments of his game.
The baby now faces a lifetime of challenges. Prosecutors revealed he has vision problems and depends on a feeding tube. Multiple specialists provide weekly care for his ongoing medical needs.
“You have one of the most innocent of innocent victims in our community hurt by the very person who should protect them,” prosecutor Matthew Torbenson said during sentencing.
His wife appeared via Zoom for the hearing but logged off before sentencing. She said watching was too difficult to bear.
