The Philadelphia 76ers were defeated 106-89 by the Miami Heat on Monday. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported a squad meeting transpired before head coach Nick Nurse spoke to the media after their defeat. Tyrese Maxey allegedly “challenged” Joel Embiid for his tardiness, according to the report.
On Wednesday, the Sixers defeated the Memphis Grizzlies to win their third game. Regretfully, the team lost again, dropping them to the bottom of the Eastern Conference rankings with a 2-12 record. During the postgame interview, Embiid addressed the issue about their leaked team meeting.

He wasn’t pleased with the information leaked about their team meeting, according to the Cameroonian center. The anonymous source was even referred to by Embiid as “a real piece of s**t,” according to Tony Jones of The Athletic.

On Thursday, NBA Insider Jake Fischer reported Embiid’s desire to find the “snitch.”
“When ESPN reported details on Tuesday morning, from inside the 76ers’ team meeting following Monday night’s blown lead in Miami, one league figure close to Philadelphia’s All-Star center told me: ‘Joel is going to be furious.’ And that Embiid was going to try and find the Sixers’ supposed snitch,” Fischer reported.

Charania appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Thursday and defended himself for his work. According to the reporter, he’s “doing his job” and believes there’s a certain “level of respect on both sides.”
Joel Embiid has an issue with how the Sixers control his injuries

Joel Embiid has expressed dissatisfaction with the Sixers’ handling of his injuries, according to Fischer. According to Embiid, he “prefers some level of control” with the injuries that are shared with the public.
“Embiid has notoriously posed challenges to the Sixers’ medical updates, leading to numerous organizational fines, while the center prefers some level of control over what injury he’s listed for and how he’s listed with it, sources say,” Fischer wrote.

The Sixers have struggled with Embiid’s injuries as he’s never appeared in at least 70 games. He was sidelined early in the season due to “left knee injury management” following meniscus surgery he underwent during the 2023–24 NBA campaign.
He missed the Sixers’ first six games and even dealt with the league investigation after the front office stated their plans regarding Embiid’s availability for back-to-back games. According to Philly, the 2023 MVP doesn’t plan to play back-to-back games.
The Sixers were fined $100,000 for “inconsistent” statements regarding the injury status of Embiid. This season, the seven-time All-Star has played four games, averaging 19.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
