Amen Thompson is getting more touches this season and that is huge for someone who is only in his third year. It is by necessity as he needs to play the point guard following the injury to Fred VanVleet. However, it is also because he has the chops to become an all-around player, a future star.

He is living up well to the challenge. There are times, however, that he appears lost. Head coach Ime Udoka is satisfied with what the third year guard is showing but he believes there are things he can still improve. He provided two: reading plays and not settling.
“Biggest thing I think is recognition overall,” Udoka answered when asked by a reporter during practice on what areas Thompson needs to improve to get to the next level offensively.
“Point guard is one of the toughest spots to play and understanding when to be aggressive and when to pull back a little bit and get guys involved so he is finding that balance.”
Udoka also talked about Thompson’s shot selection.
“Continue to be aggressive, confident in the work you put in on the summer, with mid-range shot. [He’s] over-penetrating sometimes. You wanna take the simple shot. Take what’s there,” the coach continued.

“But game by game, after 20 games, he’s taking steps offensively.”
Amen Thompson is already one of the best defensive players in the league and is in his first full season as the Rockets point guard.
I asked Ime Udoka what he has talked with Amen about and what improvements he wants to see from him on the offensive end of the court.

Amen Thompson in the last 10 games
The question probably came up after the fourth overall pick struggled in their most recent loss. He only managed to get 7 points in the defeat to the Dallas Mavericks. He, however, had 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block.
He was sensational in the games before. He posted his season high 31 points in the win over the Phoenix Suns that Kevin Durant had to post about it.

He scored 20 points and had 12 assists in their victory of the Sacramento Kings. His worst game of the season so far was against the Utah Jazz last November 30 when he was limited to 5 points on two out of eight shooting.
