It may be late but Russell Westbrook will still be in the NBA after the Sacramento Kings struck a deal with 2017 MVP a week before the 2025-26 opening. Insider Chris Haynes said he agreed to a $3.6 million contract, which is deemed lower than what he could have received had he decided to play overseas.

Brodie last played for the Denver Nuggets and helped the team reach the second round of the playoffs and pushed the eventual champions Oklahoma City Thunder to seven games. He averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists in 75 games for the Nuggets.

His return to the league is celebrated by fans and former and current players.

“It’s better for the league. I have a lot of respect for Russ,” Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker said on Wednesday.

“I’m definitely happy for him and his family. He deserves it.”

Former fierce opponent Patrick Beverley, who floated the idea that Westbrook is being disrespected by the league, also celebrated the news.

Kings were the only team consistently linked to Westbrook this summer and according to Haynes, it was the team’s veterans that pushed the team to sign him.

DeMar Derozan, Zach Lavine, Damontas Sabonis, and Dennis Schroder all wanted him. Brodie was teammates with Sabonis in OKC for one season and was with Schroder from 2018 to 2020.

“A competitor, close. [He] never backs down and a Hall of Famer,” he told reporters after shootaround.

The Kings still has one pre-season game left which will be against Westbrook’s former team Los Angeles Lakers which many NBA players are blaming for the fall of nine-time All-Star’s career.
