Sacramento Kings Star DeMar Derozan Makes Bold Claim About Ceiling of 6’5 Guard Whose Impressive Pre-Season Went Unnoticed

The Sacramento Kings had an interesting build up to the new season after a series of news that should make their fans feel great. There is the signing of future Hall of Fame member Russell Westbrook and the new deal given to Keegan Murray.

While all of these are happening, a kid is putting up a solid pre-season to the point that his start teammate DeMar Derozan is now predicting big things for him.

Nique Clifford was picked 24th overall by the Kings in this year’s draft after playing all five years in college. He played his last two seasons with the Colorado State Rams and averaged 18.9 points in 36 games. This is amazing given how he started his college career as a role player for the Colorado Buffaloes.

He played four pre-season games and put up 14.3 points and 4.5 assists per game.

Derozan thinks Clifford has the potential to become an All-Star.

“I really believe [Nique Clifford] is gonna be a star in this league. He’s very mature and smooth with his skillset,” DeRozan told reporters during practice.

Nique Clifford has been one of the best rookies in preseason:

    14.7 PPG
    52% FG
    33% 3P
    3.7 APG
    1.3 SPG

Sacramento Kings’ old rookie is ready

Clifford is already 23 years old, something that is relatively uncommon in the league who prefer rookies they can still develop.

However, for Derozan, the kid should see this as an advantage, coupled with a teachable attitude.

“Just to have that foundation already, with time, it’s not gonna do nothing but get better and better,” the six-time All-Star continued.

“So I’m excited for him. Not just this year. I really believe he gonna be a star in this league. The thing he’s able to do. Great kid. Listens. That’s a recipe for nothing but success.”

It is still unknown if Clifford will break the main rotation as most Kings roster depth chart prediction has Keon Ellis at starting shooting guard, followed by Malik Monk.
