Some players take a victory lap for beating Giannis Antetokounmpo while others choose to be more respectful despite achieving the best honor. The latter is what Sacramento Kings point guard Dennis Schroder showed to the Milwaukee Bucks star after his team Germany won EuroBasket 2025.

“We’re representing [our] countries. Me, Germany. [Giannis Antetokounmpo], Greece,” he told reporters after his team’s celebration of the gold medal victory.
“Got his first medal as well for Greece. Nothing but respect for him. Four beautiful children, his wife, his brothers who are always with him.”
The Kings PG also thought that he and Giannis carry the same burden as basketball stars.
“We do exactly the same thing, but what he does in the NBA is a little bit on a different level. One of the best players in the world… It’s great for Greece and for Germany.”

Schroder’s family, like Antetokounmpo’s in Athens, are ethnically from Africa.

Dennis Schroder hails whole team for victory
The Germans beat Turkey in the final game of the tournament, 88-83, to be crowned the best in Europe. It was only the second gold medal for Germany after winning it in 1993 as the hosts.
Schroder went on to win the Finals MVP. It is his second gold medal after willing his country to FIBA World Cup in 2023.

“To be a World Cup winner and a European champion, that’s big time,” he said after the game.
Schroder averaged just 10 points per game along with four assists. However, he stepped up in the last two games, averaging 21 points and 12 assists in that span.
He may be the MVP but he gave credits to his teammates for enduring the Turkish.
“We never shy away from the big moments. … Everybody is so confident,” he said. “Just big-time plays from big-time character people.”
Former Washington Wizards forward Isaac Bonga topscored for his team with 20 points while Orlando Magic’s Franz Wagner had 18. Tristan da Silva, also of Magic, poured in 13 points.
They survived the dominant performance of All-Star Five member Alperen Sengun who finished with 28 points. Cedi Osman contributed 23 points and five rebounds while former NBA player Shane Larkin had 13 points, six rebounds, and nine assists.
