The Sacramento Kings lost a good coach when Jordi Fernandez finally had a chance to fulfill his dream of becoming an NBA head coach with the Brooklyn Nets. The man will have the tough but exciting task of turning a young group of misfits into a strong basketball team that can stand up to the rest of the Eastern Conference.

While the Kings are happy that their former assistant is finding a new place to call home, it’s hard to deny that they will have a tough time finding a like-for-like replacement for his services.

The coach has been a key part of Sacramento’s on-court successes so far, and his coaching acumen will be tough to replace. Mike Brown understands this and will be thorough when it comes to finding his replacement.

The press talked to Mike Brown and discussed the team’s approach to finding Fernandez’s replacement. He explained that a couple of names are already listed as potential replacements, but they’re also open to looking elsewhere to address the opening.

    Per Sactown Sports’ Brenden Nunes:

“I’m a pretty, I guess, slow guy when it comes to that,” Mike Brown said. “I’m a pretty patient guy when it comes to that. So, I’ve been meeting people down here in Vegas during the Summer League. I’ve been meeting with people back in Sacramento.

“When the time’s right, we’ll make a hire, and we feel confident that there’ll be good coaches that will come in and do just as good of a job as the coaches that have left.”

Names such as Jay Triano, Doug Christie, and Leandro Barbosa are linked with the position, but Brown keeps his cards close to his chest. The Sacramento Kings need to be thorough with their hiring process as the assistant could spell the difference between a deep playoff run and a trip back to the lottery.

Hopefully, the Kings will identify the right replacement to help them push for the postseason in a stacked Western Conference.
