Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown has agreed to a new three-year extension with the team worth $30 million, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Before both sides reached an agreement, it was reported that there was a “gulf” between Mike Brown and the Sacramento Kings front office in terms of his annual salary, as the latter offered a three-year, $21 million extension when the former wanted to get paid roughly $10 million yearly.
Now that he has secured the bag, Mike Brown is officially one of the league’s highest-paid coaches. According to Yahoo Sports, the 54-year-old is tied with Milwaukee Bucks’ Doc Rivers in average annual value.
Mike Brown just finished his second season with the Sacramento Kings, where he has amassed a 94-70 regular-season record in the last two years.
The four-time NBA champion coach guided them to their first playoff appearance since 2005-06 last season when they finished with a 48-34 record, good for third in the Western Conference. However, they couldn’t replicate what they did last season, as they finished ninth in the Western Conference this year with a 46-36 record and were eliminated in the play-in tournament.
What’s next for the Sacramento Kings this offseason?
With Mike Brown’s services secured, the Sacramento Kings will first focus on this summer’s NBA Draft, where they have the No. 13 and 45 picks.
According to ESPN’s latest mock draft, they will get Ja’Kobe Walter from Baylor and Pelle Larsson from Arizona.
After that, the Sacramento Kings must decide on the future of Malik Monk, their sixth man, since he’ll hit free agency.
Retaining Malik Monk will be a priority for the team, as he is coming off a solid 2023-24 campaign, averaging 15.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game on 44.3 percent shooting from the floor.
