The Sacramento Kings took care of business against the Phoenix Suns, snapping their seven-game win streak in an overtime win, 127-118, on Sunday. Kings’ center Domantas Sabonis had a huge night for the team with 20 points and 13  rebounds, adding five assists to the stat sheet.

Sacramento took advantage of the Suns as forward Kevin Durant was out due to a calf strain. According to the organization, the star could miss at least two weeks because of the injury. Kings’ forward DeMar DeRozan added 34 points in the night on a 14-for-25 shooting from the field. DeRozan scored 24 of his 34 points during the fourth quarter and overtime.

Point guard De’Aaron Fox added 21 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. However, the off-the-bench scoring from Kevin Huerter gave the team the energy to fight for the win. The 6-foot-7 shooter scored 17 points on 5-for-9 shooting beyond the arc.

FINAL: Kings shade the Suns 127-118.

DeRozan‘s play for the Kings has been exceptional this season. He averaged 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in his nine games. Before their game against Phoenix, the six-time All-Star posted a lowly 13-point performance in a loss against the Los Angeles Clippers. The veteran star shot 5-for-12 from the field and couldn’t connect in his two attempts from deep.

The Kings are now 6-4 and look to capture their seventh win of the season on Monday. They’ll play against the San Antonio Spurs before heading back home.

Sacramento Kings guard suffered an injury against the Suns

Malik Monk was ruled out for the rest of Sunday’s game against the Suns. The Sacramento Kings guard left the court in the second quarter, limping to the locker room. Monk rolled his right ankle as he stepped on Mason Plumlee’s foot during a defensive sequence.

The Kings guard finished the night with four points and three rebounds in seven minutes. Monk is an important player in their system as he’s one of the top scorers on the team. The guard is averaging 13.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists, making him the fifth-best scorer on the roster.

Since joining Sacramento in 2022, Monk has made a name for himself as one of the top Sixth Man candidates in the league. He’s averaged 14.4 points and 4.4 assists during his time with the Kings. He’s never started a game under head coach Mike Brown, giving the team a sparkplug for the second unit.

Monk has been an efficient scorer for the team. The 6-foot-3 guard has made 44.6% of his shots from the field and 35.1% of his 3-pointers. Last season was his best year with the Kings, so far. The former Kentucky Wildcats star averaged 15.4 points and 5.1 assists.

The Kings guard was also a runner-up for the Sixth Man of the Year award.
