After being waived by the Golden State Warriors, veteran guard Chris Paul has now joined the San Antonio Spurs. This prompted the All-Star to share his thoughts about playing for his new team and French star Victor Wembanyama, one of the best young guys in the NBA today.
Paul has agreed to a one-year, $11 million contract with the Spurs. The 12-time All-Star, is set to team up with Wemby as San Antonio looks to build a young, talented roster.

After a successful stint with the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he helped develop Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Paul joined the Phoenix Suns and led them to the NBA Finals. The Spurs were eager to add his experience and leadership to their up-and-coming squad.
Paul had a lengthy conversation with Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, which convinced him to join the team. The Spurs were able to offer Paul a competitive one-year deal, as they prioritize cap flexibility in 2025 to potentially make a big splash in free agency.
The Spurs’ agreement with Paul comes after the Golden State Warriors waived him, as they were unwilling to pay his $30 million salary for the upcoming season. The move allows Paul to join a team with a different path to contention, as he looks to showcase his skills and prove he is still an elite point guard in the league.

Many fans expected Paul to join a team with championship aspirations in the event he will be waived by the Dubs. Instead of doing so, the Point God did the opposite by signing up with the Spurs for next season. In a video shared by NBA TV on X, Chris Haynes went into detail about the point guard’s recent decision.

Just last season, Paul averaged 9.2 points, 6.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. For his part, Wembanyama notched 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and 3.6 blocks per contest. These numbers, if combined on the court, can be a problem for other teams in the league.

It remains to be seen how Paul’s addition to the Spurs’ roster will shape up as the season progresses soon. What’s certain, though, is that Wemby will be getting one of the best basketball minds to run point for him and elevate his game in the process.
