The San Antonio Spurs have one of the league’s promising young cores heading into the 2025-26 season, but Brian Windhorst is concerned with the team’s immediate outlook.

Speaking on NBA Today, the long-time ESPN analyst raised concerns about the San Antonio Spurs’ roster construction, particularly how their current backcourt rotation could hinder their performance this upcoming season.
“(Dylan Harper) already got a wrist injury. Unfortunately, he’s going to miss some time. Maybe almost all the preseason,” Windhorst explained. “With him and Stephon Castle, you’re looking at committing to playing two very young guards. And if you’re talking about the recipe for winning in the NBA, it’s not playing young guards.”

“They’re going to maybe have to walk the line a little bit between developing their young guys who they’ve drafted to put next to Victor and whether they want to actually win in a very highly competitive Western Conference,” he added.
San Antonio Spurs News: Analyst details Victor Wembanyama’s path to the Hall of Fame
Victor Wembanyama is one of the most unique players in basketball history, and ESPN’s Zach Kram believes that the San Antonio Spurs center is on his way to the Hall of Fame, despite his small sample size.

“And it might seem presumptive to include Wembanyama in this group, as he has played only 117 career games. But health permitting, presumably every NBA player, executive, and fan would envision Wembanyama as a future Hall of Famer due to his expansive skill set at such a young age,” Kram wrote.
The Frenchman already has an extensive resume at 21, with an NBA All-Star selection, All-Defensive First Team selection, Rookie of the Year trophy, and two blocks titles in his first two seasons.
