Hall of Fame forward Carmelo Anthony believes that San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama will win the league MVP as soon as the 2025-26 campaign. During a recent episode of the 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast, Anthony explained why the San Antonio Spurs youngster is an NBA great in the making.

“I predict he’s the MVP this year,” Anthony said about Wembanyama. “I say that because he has an opportunity to lead every statistical category in the game. Every category that there is, he can lead in this season.”
“They’ve never seen anything like Wilt until Kareem, and you never seen anything like Kareem until Shaq. We’ve never seen no s**t like Shaq before, a physical prowess specimen like Shaq. We’ve never seen a LeBron before. And we’ve never seen Wemby. That’s MVP. He went to all the infinity stones; went to Hakeem, went to Garnett… and we ain’t seen the alien yet,” he added.

Wembanyama is coming off a shortened 2024-25 campaign due to a blood clot diagnosis. The Frenchman averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and a league-leading 3.8 blocks on 47.6 percent shooting from the field in 46 regular season matches.
San Antonio Spurs secure new contracts with young core
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype recently revealed that the San Antonio Spurs exercised their team options on Stephon Castle and Victor Wembanyama, who are dubbed as the future cornerstones of the franchise.

“The San Antonio Spurs exercised their third-year, $10 million team option on Stephon Castle and their fourth-year, $16.87 million team option on Victor Wembanyama for the 2026-27 season as expected. Castle was the 2025 NBA Rookie of the Year. Wembanyama was a 2025 NBA All-Star,” Scotto posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Before this, the San Antonio Spurs had a busy offseason. They acquired free agent center Luke Kornet and re-signed De’Aaron Fox to a four-year extension, among others.
