San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama admits that he is quite bothered by their 111-106 road defeat to the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night, given the way they lost the game.
After scoring 70 points in the first half, the San Antonio Spurs were only held to 36 points in the second half, paving the way for the Houston Rockets to come back and steal the game. Victor Wembanyama’s inefficient night didn’t help either, as the Frenchman only had 14 points on 5-for-21 shooting from the field.
“Same as usual, blowing 15-plus point leads. The good thing is, we’re all onto the problem. We’re all putting our minds into it. But we’re conscious it is a problem,” Wembanyama said via ClutchPoints’ Hector Ledesma.
“I don’t think we stuck to what we were supposed to stick to. They went on a run, which you know, every team in the NBA is going to do, they’re a good team. I just don’t feel like we stuck to the basics,” Julian Champagnie added. “The loss is what bothers me the most, despite everything else. That’s just us not putting our best foot forward. It’s kind of what the kicker is for me.”

San Antonio Spurs News: Victor Wembanyama makes big vow ahead of the 2026 NBA All-Star Game
Victor Wembanyama just became the first Frenchman to be named as a starter for the NBA All-Star Game, and the San Antonio Spurs big man, who will be making his second career All-Star appearance, vowed to bring his intensity and competitiveness to the showpiece event.
“I was glad, I was happy. I wasn’t sure my name was going be up there,” Wembanyama said about making the All-Star team. “So it’s great. It’s just another step. I was really happy to learn that I’m the first French guy to get that. I’m proud of this.”
“I want to push the great players of this sport to play in the All-Star game just as hard as I will. We’ll see how it goes, but if they don’t play hard, I’ll do it without them,” he added.
