The San Antonio Spurs have Victor Wembanyama to thank for their sudden emergence as an NBA team worth watching.

The Frenchman lived up to the massive expectations set ahead of his rookie season by showcasing an edge on offense and defense. The fact that he’s already dealing with people trying to make money off his image proves he’s officially arrived as a superstar in the world’s most popular professional basketball league.

Wemby is focused on helping the Spurs win as many games as possible, and his work ethic shows how hungry he is to win a chip for San Antonio and create a space for himself as one of the game’s great bigs.

Many already hype him up as one of the best players in the league, and ESPN seemingly agrees with the incredible ranking they gave him.

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is #11 in ESPN’s Top 100 NBA Players list

ESPN gave Wemby a considerably high ranking when they published their Top 100 players list last year. While it was true that a player of his size and skill isn’t commonly found in the NBA, it some may have felt that the credit was too high for an unproven player.

However, his ranking this time around shows how high the sports media company’s NBA analysts view Wemby:

With a year of experience under his belt, the No. 1 pick from 2023 is coming for No. 1 on this list. The unanimous 2023-24 Rookie of the Year put together a historic first season in the NBA, producing numbers that compared favorably to Spurs Hall of Fame big men David Robinson and Tim Duncan. This season Wemby will see a lot of lob dunk opportunities now that he’s paired with future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul. Wembanyama should make a run at surpassing the 254 blocks he notched last season on the way to earning his first NBA All-Star nod, while falling squarely into the MVP conversation.

It’s easy to see why ESPN ranks him so highly. The 20-year-old giant was an unstoppable force during his ROTY campaign, averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and 3.6 blocks.

Now that he has a year of experience and another preseason under his belt, San Antonio Spurs fans can expect their star man to continue dominating opposing bigs throughout the season.
