The Chicago Sky recently announced the addition of a new assistant coach, Rena Wakama. The news was received warmly by fans and other supporters, including Satou Sabally.

Was Satou Sabally Coached by Rena Wakama?

Satou Sabally has not been directly coached by Rena Wakama. However, Wakama, known for her success as the head coach of the Nigerian Women’s National Team, has gained recognition for her coaching achievements, including leading Nigeria to historic victories at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

So far, her new stint with the Chicago Sky was the first time Wakama would be under contract for any franchise under the WNBA.

In a statement, the Chicago Sky praised Wakama for her record and achievements and expressed hope that it would bring added value to the team.

“Rena has proven that she has a winning mindset and attitude,” Sky Head Coach Tyler Marsh said. “We’ve seen her success this past summer with the Nigerian National Team at the Olympics, building on an impressive winning record and extensive background in coaching and player development. She is an excellent young leader and coach who will make a significant impact on the Sky’s program.”

Wakama also expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and declared her goal of bringing basketball that is “not only competitive but also fun to watch.”

“I am honored and thankful to Jeff and Tyler for granting me the opportunity to join the Chicago Sky family,” Wakama said. “Tyler has one of the best basketball minds in the industry and I’m excited to help him bring his vision to life. I look forward to serving this organization and working alongside the other brilliant minds on staff to create a brand of basketball that is not only competitive but also fun to watch!

    “Let’s get to work!”
