Every San Antonio Spurs’ win over the Oklahoma City Thunder is a statement but for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, it’s not something really big.
The two Western Conference met for the fourth time this season and the Thunder came out on top at least to bring their head-to-head record to 1-3 against their favor. SGA scored 35 points in the win and also put up 5 rebounds and 5 assists. He also brought it on the defensive side by blocking four shots.

He caught up with the courtside reporter after the dominant 119-98 victory and asked him how he’s feeling about finally beating the team that dropped them three times.
“We kind of have no choice. They got the better of us the last two times we played them. It doesn’t happen to this group. It doesn’t happen a lot,” he said to the mic.
“Uncomfortable feelings and adversities is where you find gold and find who you are and we showed that tonight. Now from here on, it’s just about getting better.”
Before getting carried away by emotions, he made sure to let people know that they are only taking everything game by game.
“Tonight wasn’t our Super Bowl. It wasn’t anything else. It wasn’t anything on an 82-game season.”

SGA after the win vs. the Spurs tonight:
“Tonight wasn’t our Super Bowl.” 🤣🤣

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander clarifies Super Bowl comment
His comment instantly gained attention. Talking about Super Bowl in the NBA, especially on X, is one way to put down teams who are “over celebrating” small wins or milestones.
SGA made sure that it won’t be blown out proportion during the post-game conference.

Spurs and Thunder is building an exciting rivalry this season and SGA’s comment might have just fueled it.
The two teams will meet again on February 4 at the Frost Bank Center.
