But one play made the optics horrific for the Lakers as LaRavia got his ankles snatched — or so it seemed. Exactly, that meant Cunningham’s ice-cold three-pointer showed how helpless the Lakers were in their home on Tuesday.
Jake LaRavia Gets Ankle Broken By His Own Teammate’s Foot
Cunningham executed a slick move through the screen, leaving Laravia with no clue. The Lakers star lost his balance on foot and fell backward hard. The 24-year-old Pistos star then splashed a cold-blooded three-pointer.
However, closer angles revealed LaRavia caught his foot on teammate Deandre Ayton’s shoe while navigating the screen. The unintentional stumble was less of an ankle-breaking sauce and more of a teammate trip.

LaRavia had a rough night all around. Minutes later, Jalen Duren caught him with a flagrant elbow to the face. The forward hit both free throws before heading to the locker room for evaluation. He returned, but the damage was done as Pistons built a 96-88 lead through three quarters.
They never looked back in the fourth, extending the margin to 22 points. Cunningham finished with 27 points, five rebounds, and 11 assists on 12-of-19 shooting.
LaRavia played a total of 38 minutes in the losing effort. He posted only nine points and four rebounds. Coach JJ Redick made some adjustments during halftime, but that never materialized on the score sheet.
Jake LaRavia’s One-Word Response to Coach JJ Redick Fell Short Against Pistons
“Energy” is what LaRavia preached after Lakers’ victory over the Kings on Sunday. He emphasized positive vibes, countering Redick’s recent comments about a tense post-Christmas practice.
The forward emphasized how they didn’t let criticism affect them negatively and came out with great practice intensity. He hoped it would give them a mini-win streak. But two days later, he witnessed the ground reality check against Detroit.
The Pistons exposed every weakness Redick identified, and LaRavia’s energy quote aged poorly. He thought one good game would erase every technical issue, but saw the squad struggle with defensive rotations again.
