Sophie Cunningham was among the first to react to the passing of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Known for standing firm with people who share her values, the Indiana Fever guard once again showed support for a figure facing heavy backlash online.
Not long after Kirk’s death, Christian musician Forrest Frank posted a video recalling a clip where Kirk praised him for spreading Christianity among young Americans. The post cost Frank nearly 30,000 followers, but instead of backing down, he doubled down, declaring Jesus as the “King of Kings and Lord of Lords.” Cunningham was quick to reply in the comments: “Amen young sir.”

Her online presence didn’t stop there. Earlier in the week, Sophie Cunningham reposted Pat McAfee’s tribute to Kirk, commending the late activist for always speaking his mind. On Friday, she also left a prayer on Erika Kirk’s Instagram tribute to her late husband.
Cunningham’s own year was cut short in August when she tore her MCL against the Connecticut Sun. Still, she delivered steady numbers in 30 games—averaging 8.6 points, 46.9% shooting from the floor, 43.2% from deep, and 3.5 rebounds.
“Prayers up”: Sophie Cunningham reacts to death of Trump ally Charlie Kirk
When the news broke on Wednesday, right-wing figure Riley Gaines Barker shared a photo with Kirk, admitting she was in shock.

“I’m so sick. Literal disbelief,” Barker wrote. “Stop what you’re doing and say a prayer to the Most High for Charlie Kirk and his family.”
Cunningham also jumped in, keeping her words simple but heartfelt: “Prayers up.”
Two days later, authorities confirmed 22-year-old Tyler Robinson had turned himself in after confessing to his father that he shot Kirk. He now faces charges of aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and felony discharge of a firearm, according to police records.
Kirk’s sudden death has drawn reactions across political and cultural circles. Cunningham has been vocal in showing her support for those mourning the loss of the conservative voice, underscoring how her platform stretches well beyond the hardwood.
