“I Don’t Know What’s Going On”: Sophie Cunningham Confesses She’s Checked Out Of Aces-Mercury Finals After Draining Fever Campaign

The emotional stress that comes in pair with the physical challenge in athletes are just as comparable to those of us who work with our careers on the line. And Sophie Cunningham’s recharge came in a bit earlier than usual that she opted to completely unplug..

“I haven’t watched a lick of the WNBA,” Sophie Cunningham said. “I don’t know what’s going on. I talked to my teammates the day that we did exit interviews and all that. … I need a cleanse.”

The Fever’s luck had run out, missing the finals after being taken apart by the Las Vegas Aces. And what hurts for any athlete is the fact that they weren’t even there to take chances and turn the tide. Sophie Cunningham has already been ruled out weeks before and is slated for a return next season.

With Sophie Cunningham’s first season at Indiana now closed. It truly is time to recoup. A time to step away from what drove your head crazy. From what had troubled you for a period. As any athlete knows, the battle for the next season has already started in their heads.

The tank is empty, the mind and body is running on fumes. But she’s made it to the pit stop. And while the break will be for a short while before the restart, a player of Sophie Cunningham’s level knows that recovery is just another part of the battle. She’s not just resting up for herself, although it really should be, she’s also resting up for the future.

Peace and quiet it is until 2026.

Sophie Cunningham Keeps Options Open Amid Fever Uncertainty

While Sophie Cunningham sleeps, the fandom rests not. And with the season finally done and dusted for 2025, fans have decided to take it upon themselves and ignite the talks of Sophie switching flags. And the 29-year old guard, who still have plenty in mileage, is open to keep moving.

“I might be blonde, but I can’t just not look at other opportunities,” she said (per Chloe Peterson). “I have loved being here, and I don’t think that’s news to anybody. I’ve been in the league seven years, and I’ve never been part of a team like this.”

She might be taking a break from watching basketball, but Sophie Cunningham remains very much in the conversation. Her next move could shape not just her own future but also how the Fever redefine theirs heading into next season.
