Sophie Cunningham didn’t get to finish what she started with the Indiana Fever. The injury shut her down early, and now both she and Kelsey Mitchell are walking into free agency with a lot of question marks hanging over them.
Their contracts ran out after the Fever’s playoff run ended, and right now, there’s no telling if either of them will be wearing the same jersey next season.

That didn’t stop Indiana from showing love to Mitchell, though. The Fever’s IG page called her
“the hardest player in the league to guard.”

Cunningham didn’t say much — just dropped one word in the comments:
“Period.”
If you’ve seen Mitchell play, you get it. She’s quick, crafty, and that footwork is nasty. She doesn’t just beat defenders — she makes them look bad. A lot of players in the league will tell you the same thing.
Sophie Cunningham on checking the market
When exit interviews came around, Cunningham got the question everyone expected — what’s next? Her answer felt honest, with that little bit of humor she’s known for.

“I might be blonde, but I can’t just not look at other opportunities,” she said, likely throwing a playful nod at her blonde teammate Lexie Hull.
“I have loved being here, and I don’t think that’s news to anybody,” she added. “I’ve been in the league seven years, and I’ve never been part of a team like this.”
Fever GM Amber Cox didn’t hold back — she said keeping Kelsey Mitchell is priority number one. Cunningham, meanwhile, hinted online that she might still be around, but for now, it’s all wait and see.

Indiana fans can only hope both of them come back healthy and ready to run it back next year — because the chemistry’s there, and they were just starting to cook.
