Sophie Cunningham recently had a bare-it-all interview with Front Office Sports, where she covered a lot of ground and even gave her perspective on the possibility of her playing for Project B someday. Cunningham has been a strong voice for herself and her fellow ballers in the ongoing negotiations regarding the CBA with the league.
The former Fever player who is a free agent currently, did not exactly state that she will definitely play for the brand new league, but admitted that since the money is pretty big, there would be no surprise if she agrees to do so.

“One of the things that’s opened up because of the W’s inability to pay players is other leagues popping up – Unrivaled, now we see Project B offering multi-million dollar deals. Where do you stand on Project B? Is that a league that you’d want to play for?” Front Office Sports asked Sophie Cunningham.
“I don’t know too much about it. You know, you see stuff on social media, but I also know how social media goes. So you got to take it with a grain of salt. But, you know, if people are going to be paying you multi-million dollar deals, why would you not?” Cunningham replied.
Sophie Cunningham was also asked extensively about the ongoing negotiations between the WNBPA and the league. The free agent did reveal that while things are moving pretty slowly between the player’s association and the W, there is at least some communication going on between the two parties on a regular basis.
Sophie Cunningham Opens Up On What Led To Fever Not Entering Playoffs
Sophie Cunningham was also quizzed on the challenges that the Fever went through in the most recent campaign, which ultimately led them to not make the playoffs. Cunningham admitted that the biggest challenge was the players being injured.

“Honestly, I think the missing piece is just being healthy. I think that’s the name of the game. And even when we weren’t healthy, we were a couple calls away from making it to the Finals. And so, for us, I think just the moment of adversity that we had through that we went through this past year, I think it’s setting us up.” Cunningham said.
The popular hooper also admitted that the entire pressure of the CBA negotiations added to the burdens that she and her team were carrying. Cunningham additionally remarked that if the league keeps this up, the WNBA itself might disappear next year.
