The Point God may face the curtain call soon. Chris Paul sat down with San Antonio Spurs legend Tony Parker and opened up about his future plans.
He said retirement is on the horizon for him as he is now in his 19th season in the NBA.
“Maybe a year or two. I’m still trying to feel it out. I think at this point the hardest part is I love this. I practice everyday. I love hooping,” he told Parker.
He also mentioned the times he misses his children’s games because of his job as a contributing factor.
“The hardest part is when I get home & have to watch my kids’ games on the iPad or what not. And so, that’s the total war right now.”
CP3 will go down as one of the best players in the history of the NBA. Just recently, he became the second all-time in assists leaders, surpassing Jason Kidd.
Chris Paul on stint with the Warriors
Last season was the second least number of games CP3 played out of 82 games as part of the Golden State Warriors.
It may not be the shortest but it was the time that he was featured less prominently. He played alongside former rival Stephen Curry as a back up PG and was bugged by injuries all throughout.
The failed stint is among the reasons why decided to sign with the Spurs as he wanted a bigger role as he nears retirement.
He believes he still has what it takes to play. With the Spurs, he is back in starter position and is meant to mentor 2024 Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama.
Last year was probably one of the toughest years for me. I just love to hoop. I wanna play. If I’m gonna sacrifice my family and be away from them, then I at least need to be playing.
He also touched on his current team’s chances in the playoffs
Nobody’s guaranteed to win. It’s only one team that’s gonna win and for me, you know I looked and I was like, ‘Man I can go play. I can go hoop’.
Right now, CP3 is third in the most minutes played in the Spurs behind Wembanyama and Julian Champagnie. He still scores in double digits with 10 and records 8.5 dimes a game.
