With the Golden State Warriors dropping below .500 after a close loss to the Toronto Raptors on Monday, Steph Curry’s chances to win his fifth NBA championship seem slimmer. On Tuesday, Warriors coach Steve Kerr opened up on the possibility of their superstar point guard requesting a trade to move on from Golden State.
Kerr was a recent guest on 95.7 The Game’s Willard & Dibs Show. The Warriors coach shared his thoughts on Steph Curry’s future with the team, shutting down the rumors that say he might ask to be traded to pursue his fifth title.
“I don’t think so. I think Steph loves the idea of being a Warrior for life. I think that’s so meaningful for him,” said Kerr. “He has no intention (of leaving). That’s what makes him unique and different. That’s why he’s not asking the organization to trade everything to go get him help.”

When the Warriors became champions in 2022, they started to believe that their “two-timeline plan” is the appropriate call to keep their team competitive in the long run as the trio of Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson go past their primes. However, Thompson left the team this past summer to join the Dallas Mavericks.

Meanwhile, Steph Curry and Draymond Green will remain under contract with the Warriors until 2027. If the two plan and hope to remain with the Warriors until they retire, their plan and their contract situation align.
Most veteran players looking to win another championship tend to wish to move to other teams that have a chance at the title, but Steph Curry may not take that road. Despite being aware of his limited window, the 36-year-old has seemingly accepted the Warriors’ plan to retain their young players and draft capital to keep the franchise afloat once he retires.

Steph Curry is not forcing his team to go all-in
Steph Curry does not seem to want to force the Warriors to go all in on mortgaging their future so they can push for another title run with him at the center. The four-time champion said he wants the team to think long-term, but if there is a chance they can build a better roster without the need to spend too much of their assets, he believes the team should not waste that chance and be willing to push forward with such deals.

“There’s a responsibility of keeping the franchise in a good space (long term) when it comes to when we leave this thing when we’re done,” Curry told reporters on Monday. “Doesn’t mean that you’re not trying to get better. Doesn’t mean that you’re not active in any type of search.”
The Warriors had a good 12-3 start to the season with their seemingly deep roster, but have since failed to remain consistent. They are currently 19-20 and potentially settling for another play-in tournament finish.
