Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry didn’t play in Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game with the USA Team Stripes. Still, he witnessed the incredible competitiveness among his fellow stars from the bench. Aside from the main event of the weekend, Curry did participate in other contests, not even the 3-Point Shooting Contest.
This year, it was Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard who took over the event and won his third 3-Point Shooting title. Lillard hasn’t played a single game this season as he’s recovering from a torn Achilles tendon. However, the NBA player didn’t let it stop him from taking on the top long-range shooters in the league.
Now that he’s won three, it gives him an edge over Curry.

Ahead of the All-Star Game, Stephen Curry announced his decision to join the 3-Point Shooting Contest in Phoenix. He also said that he wants to go against Lillard, and he will try to reach out to his former teammate, Dallas Mavericks forward Klay Thompson. Lastly, the Warriors star mentioned Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker as a potential participant.
“One hundred percent,” Curry said. “I already scheduled it. We’re gonna bring some people. Me, Dame [Damian Lillard], I’m gonna try to get Klay [Thompson], Dev [Devin Booker].”
Curry has won two in his career (2015 and 2021) and looks to win his third next year.
Stephen Curry proposes idea for the All-Star Game
The NBA All-Star Game has been criticized for years. Players aren’t giving effort, which results in fans and former players getting bored. Ahead of the 75th All-Star Game, Stephen Curry proposed an idea that could help improve the event.
“The only thing I would think about is shortening the game. That might be the only real suggestion I would have because it’s hard to replicate the intensity of a regular-season game. Nobody’s asking anybody to act like it’s a playoff game with those type of stakes, but maybe a shorter game,” he said.
“I know they’re doing a great job trying to shorten the day for us as All-Stars because we’re used to a certain game-day prep that gets your body ready. The timeouts aren’t as long, the breaks in between games aren’t as long. The league is doing a great job trying to address that, knowing the media part, the fan experience, the made-for-TV part of the game is a big deal. It’s why the attention on the league is at an all-time high.”
Fortunately, the stars stepped their game up on Sunday and put on an amazing show for the fans.
