The Golden State Warriors boasted their new-look roster on Sunday against the Los Angeles Lakers in their preseason debut. The Warriors had a 111-103 win over the Lakers, with Moses Moody leading the way with 19 points. All-Star guard Stephen Curry added 14 points in the game in 71.4% shooting from the floor. One of the highlights was the contributions of their newest addition to the team, Al Horford.
The five-time All-Star didn’t have the best offensive night and settled for just three points in 33.3% shooting on the floor. Defensively, however, Horford established himself as a reliable enforcer in the frontcourt. The 6-foot-9 big man had three blocks and a steal against the Lakers.
Horford also demonstrated his ability to play well with his new teammates. He had three assists in the game, showing that he can serve as a playmaker within the 3-point arc. Curry spoke highly of his new star teammate after the game and told the media that he’s developing chemistry before the regular season starts.

“He [Horford] gives space, he gives his presence on the defensive end, you saw the pass he made to me out of the corner. It’s just kind of the unspoken chemistry that will continue to get better,” said Curry.
“High IQ, experienced championship caliber player that can really fit with any lineup out there.”

“He is multidimensional as a (center). I’m excited to see what that looks like for me, for Jimmy (Butler), (Jonathan Kuminga, Draymond (Green).”
Although the acquisition of Horford turned the team into one of the oldest teams in the NBA, Stephen Curry believes things will work out well for them. The Warriors still want to contend for a championship and trust that having the one-time champion will help them in their quest.
Horford is excited to share the floor with Stephen Curry

Although Horford is primarily a frontcourt player, he still had to experience guarding Stephen Curry during certain defensive switches. Ahead of the new season, the former Atlanta Hawks star spoke to the media and revealed that he’s excited to share the court with the four-time champion.
“I’m excited to be on the floor with him (Steph). Not have to chase him around and try to contest him. The fact that we’re on the same side is something that’s special for me,” Horford said.

“I’m going to try to take advantage and learn as much from him as I can. He sees the game in a very incredible way, and I’m just going to follow suit and really lean on him.”
This is the first time that Horford and Curry will be on the same team. Although the big man is past his prime, the Warriors still think he’ll play a significant role within the team.
