With Donald Trump’s apparent victory over vice president Kamala Harris in the 2024 US presidential election, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr couldn’t help but take a jab at the Republican presidential candidate.
On Wednesday night, the former Chicago Bulls point guard spoke at the pregame news conference, sarcastically speaking about the results of the election.
“I believe in democracy and the American people have spoken and voted for Trump. I want him to do well the next four years,” Kerr told reporters with a hint of sarcasm in his tone. “I want our country to do well. I’m just thankful that there wasn’t any voting fraud this time.”

Kerr continued, still with a sarcastic tone, “Last time, I mean, all those illegal immigrants who crashed the border, raped and murdered people and then voted six times, that was unfortunate. But thankfully this time everything was clean. So, it’s great that every election has been really valid except for that last one four years ago. Twinkle in my eye as I say that in case you couldn’t see it.”

Putting his seeming disappointment at the election results, Kerr changed his tone as he expressed hope that Donald Trump would “make America great again” over the next four years, as his slogan promised.
“But I believe in democracy, I believe in the will of the people and I will do everything I can to support my country and our government,” Kerr continued. “I want nothing but the best for us. It’s a complex world. We got a lot of interesting stuff between wars abroad and the global economy that has shifted everything in terms of what it means for our citizens, they’re day-to-day lives.”
Steve Kerr is an outspoken Donald Trump critic. He had spoken at the Democratic National Convention earlier this year.
“I’m well aware I live in a bubble and I’m one of the luckiest people on Earth. So, I want what’s best for us. And I hope Trump can deliver that,” Kerr said.

Steve Kerr talks about Warriors win over Celtics
The Golden State Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics on Wednesday, 118-112, improving their record to 7-1. Head coach Steve Kerr spoke to the media after the game, recalling how his team had the advantage during the first half and overcame the Celtics’ comeback attempt to secure the win.
“Impressive first half, we really, um, once we settled into the game, we did a good job of getting into them, making them a little uncomfortable,” Kerr said. “And then, [in the] third quarter, obviously, they (Boston) got going, the offensive rebounds just killed us. I think that’s how they started knocking down threes . . . they had one possession where they got about four shots, and then they do what they do, which is spread you out and play kind of through their pick-and-roll stuff and then try to draw two and get people free.”
Kerr gave the Celtics credit for hitting some really tough shots, but said “our guys deserve some too for coming back after falling behind.”
The Warriors are set to face the Cleveland Cavaliers next on Friday.
