Russell Westbrook is entering a new era with the Sacramento Kings and with it is a new jersey number. The 2017 MVP signed a one-year deal with the Kings, one week before the opening, and he is gladly welcomed by the fan base.

Him getting to wear #0 on his jersey won’t happen, though, as he the number is already used by Malik Monk. He will wear #18 instead according to Kings’ social media.

    I

It’s only a jersey number but some of his fans felt attached with 0 as it was the number he used for the longest time, the one that he wore when his legend was made when he was still with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

There’s no backstory to it yet except that Westbrook is entering his 18th season.

I actually randomly guessed to myself yesterday that he was gonna wear 18 but I didn’t believe in it enough to say it out loud 🤣 https://t.co/x8jmlOD6QV

Westbrook last played for the Denver Nuggets. He wore #4 as Christian Braun was already wearing it. Braun got heat for not surrendering the number but Westbrook clarified that he did not ask for it.

Russell Westbrook shows no love for Lakers jersey

There’s a new jersey to display for Brodie fans at the arena. Some would probably have to think twice if they will try to bring a Los Angeles Lakers jersey.

Westbrook happily interacted with his new teammates and fans during his Kings introduction.

Russell Westbrook was all smiles during today’s Fan Fest, his first introduction to Sacramento since signing with the Kings just days ago. An open practice, a mini-dunk off, halfcourt shots (won by Devin Carter) & lots of chemistry building with the team & fans. pic.twitter.com/PNAoaAqUHl

However, one thing he appeared to be unhappy seeing is a Lakers jersey. Several kids line-up to get his autograph be he deliberately chose to not entertain the one carrying the Purple and Gold.

The fans did not end up with nothing still as Brodie generously offered to try something else.

He also gave them bracelets as memorabilia.

Westbrook ended up giving his fans a wrist band that he also signed, to make up for the jersey

I’m not surprised the media doesn’t show the full clip, as long as they get their engagement https://t.co/jAsfRtBkQs pic.twitter.com/ANbspnFhSq

The nine-time All-Star played two and half seasons with the Lakers and it is regarded as his worst stint ever, with some saying he was used as the scapegoat of the team over their struggle.
