Caitlin Clark’s recognition as TIME Magazine’s 2024 Athlete of the Year came with a mix of congratulatory vibe, backlash, and negative comments, particularly due to her statements where people deemed she has “gone full woke.” Journalist and commentator Megyn Kelly doubled down on Clark’s statement and dissected her political preference through her being a fan of Taylor Swift.
In one of the recent episodes of the Ruthless Podcast, where Megyn Kelly appeared, the broadcast personality called out Caitlin Clark as he believes the WNBA star has “bent the knee” over her “white privilege” statement
Kelly and her co-hosts also shared their input on how Clark has become a “victim of DEI” (diversity, equity, and inclusion). Kelly doubled down on the discussion and pointed out more “proof” that Caitlin Clark has always been left-leaning.
“Right now what we know about Caitlin Clark is she’s reportedly dating some very very woke leftist,” Kelly said, referring to Clark’s fiance Connor McCaffery, who indeed has expressed left-leaning views in the past. “But what we know about her is [that] she liked Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris.”
With this, Kelly linked Clark’s liking of Swift’s endorsement as a showcase of her being a left-leaning person as well.
“So she seems to be telegraphing something about her politics even though she doesn’t often tweet or post about politics,” she went on. “It seems pretty clear she was in that lane hoping Kamala Harris got elected. Though when asked about it, she tried to play it off as she was just, ‘really in favor of people informing themselves about the issues and making sure they vote.’”
Caitlin Clark When She Went to a Taylor Swift Concert: “People are Crazy”
Part of her TIME interview was Caitlin Clark recalling an instance when she attended a Taylor Swift concert in Indianapolis. During the concert, she met Tay’s mom. She also met Tay’s boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. When people noticed Clark, they turned their phones to her, took photos and videos, and even threw a few friendship bracelets her way.
“People are just going crazy that I’m there,” she said, recalling the experience. “I thought people would be so in their own world, ready to see Taylor. And it was just completely the opposite.”
During the concert, Caitlin Clark also got four Eras Tour merch bags from Taylor Swift herself, with a personal note, saying that she is “inspiring to watch from afar.”
