‘We Get Physically and Mentally Tired’ – Thunder’s Jalen Williams Puts Into Perspective Why They’re Struggling Now After Hot 2025-26 Season Start

The season is only half way. The Oklahoma City Thunder are a young team and yet, for Jalen Williams, he thinks they are already suffering exhaustion.

They started the season 24-1 but lost six games in the last three weeks. They also had back-to-back losses against the San Antonio Spurs and to Phoenix Suns and Charlotte Hornets this week. The one against Hornets was a blow out and happened at home.

The defending champions are not playing like how they did in the first two months and forward Williams said it is because they are only humans.

“When we have a normal human stretch of losing a game or two that we shouldn’t have lost, the world freaks out,” he said.

“The thing that we do internally that’s a good job is just going out there and playing like we’re not superheroes. We have human moments. We are human. We get physically and mentally tired just throughout the season. I feel like that kinda showed in that stretch.”

Sha Gilgeous-Alexander previously said that he is not worried about this difficult stretch and attributed their defeats to the whole league getting better.

Jalen Williams says they will be okay

Williams also attributed their struggle to key members of the starting five. The 2025 All-Star, however, expressed confidence that they will figure things out eventually.

“It’s nothing we haven’t done before. It’s just limiting the stretches that we have where we’re not like that,” he continued.

“We’ve had some guys banged up too, so that obviously goes into that equation a little bit. Not having AC, not having I-Hart, not having J-Will. Some of the more energy guys. Like I said, we’re human.”

Williams himself missed 19 out the 38 games after undergoing wrist surgery during the summer, shortly after they won the 2025 title.

Thunder got back to winning ways on Wednesday when they beat the Utah Jazz although they needed an overtime and SGA hitting clutch shots to pull off the difficult victory.
