Players are extensions of the coach on the court. It’s either the veteran or the point guard. Rudy Gobert tried to press his team to play harder than normal by making comments about accountability and effort after their loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. However, it does not seem like he and coach Chris Finch are on the same page.

“There’s just no effort. We’ve seen that many, many times this year, last few years since I’ve been here,” the Minnesota Timberwolves center told reporter Dane Moore after their four-point defeat to the Western Conference’s second worst team.
“We always know it’s coming, and when it comes there’s no sense of urgency. No accountability. So I think at some point, if the players don’t have accountability, someone else gotta have accountability for the players. I’m just talking straight effort.”
The Wolves are now 5-5 in their last 10. They have suffered losses to teams they are supposed to be beating like the Pelicans, the Memphis Grizzlies, the Chicago Bulls, and Utah Jazz.

Gobert did not name any players in his call out.
Rudy Gobert did not have Finch’s backing
Gobert just wants to win and he’s saying it as it is when it comes to what they can do better. However, Finch did not like it that he has to say it in public.
“I’d say a couple things. One is, anybody who knows how we do things here knows there’s a high degree of accountability. Secondly, I handle all of my conversations with ourselves in-house,” Finch said.

“Disappointing that he felt the need to go outside. But nonetheless, that’s been addressed already today. There’s never been a team that’s won anything meaningful that’s substituted their way there.”
Wolves’ next game is against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.
