UConn basketball is back in its winning ways after a harsh trip to Hawaii where the Huskies went winless in three games against unranked opponents.
On Saturday, the Huskies got back on their feet and vented all their frustration on the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk, as the two-time defending national champions came away with a lopsided 99-45 victory in Hartford.
That win was not much of a surprise, though. For all the heartbreak UConn basketball suffered in Maui, there was no way the Huskies would have lost to a team that entered the game as a 40.5-point underdog (via ESPN Bet odds).
Still, the win must have given UConn basketball fans a big sigh of relief and a semblance of feeling about things returning to normal.
“I just want to thank the fans,” Hurley said after the game, per UConn beat reporter Sam Calhoun. “We’re going to need grace. We’re going need patience and just incredible support from our fans… This team is a work in progress,” Hurley admitted as well.
UConn basketball flexes muscle in return to form
UConn’s defense that floundered in Maui was menacing against March Eastern Shore, as the Hawks shot just 30.0 percent from the field and committed 11 turnovers., The Huskies did not give Maryland Eastern Shore much of a chance in large part because of their rebounding. UConn recorded 48 rebounds to just 23 by the Hawks. Liam McNeeley and Jaylin Stewart led the Huskies with 16 points apiece while Solo Ball had 12 points.
After improving to 5-3 overall, UConn basketball will be in for a tough stretch on its schedule with games against the likes of the Baylor Bears, Texas Longhorns, and Gonzaga Bulldogs coming up next for Hurley’s squad.
