The Utah Jazz have made a minor move with the signing of former Marquette Golden Eagles star forward Justin Lewis to a contract.

Jazz just announced they signed Justin Lewis to a contract. He was with the Stars last year and will be waived to join the Stars this year.

Although Larsen didn’t mention it specifically, Lewis’ contract likely is an Exhibit 10 deal. That means Lewis can earn $75,000 worth of bonus if he manages to stay with the Jazz’s G League affiliate for at least 60 days.

An Exhibit 10 contract can then be converted into a two-way contract, which would also make the bonus money guaranteed. Each team can have a maximum of three two-way contracts, and this conversion must be done prior to the start of the regular season.
If a player on an Exhibit 10 contract is kept on the 15-man roster past the start of the regular season, his contract becomes a standard minimum deal. This is the only time it’ll have an impact on the team’s salary cap, since Exhibit 10 and two-way contracts don’t count.

Standing 6’7”, Lewis played for two seasons with the Golden Eagles, during which he averaged 13.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists while shooting 43.4 percent from the floor. He did not hear his name called at the 2022 NBA draft but he was able to secure a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls.
It doesn’t sound likely that Lewis will make the Opening Day roster of the Jazz, but he still has a chance to get called up. It is also worth noting that this isn’t his first rodeo with the Jazz organization, as he played 29 games in the G League with the Salt Lake City Stars during the 2023-24 season when he averaged 5.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per outing.
